Looks or Personality: What Matters Most for Women?

- He must be six feet tall.
- He must have a six-digit income.
- He must have the body of a god.
- He must be college-educated.
- He must be a gentleman.
If you think only men have a checklist of what their potential partners should have, think again. Women have it, too, and it all boils down to either looks or personality.
Imagine Timothée Chalamet.
Why do you think a lot of women today fantasize about him?
For one, he’s gorgeous. His face seems to have been sculpted by a Greek god to look like himself. On the other hand, he has a charming and quirky personality when he’s not on the red carpet.
So what matters most for women—looks or personality?
Looks
If you ask women from varying age ranges about their ideal man, they’d surely name James Dean, Elvis Presley, River Phoenix, or Timothée Chalamet.
And do you know what they all have in common?
Good looks!
All of these men have been every woman’s dream from the 1950s to recent years. They are all drop-dead gorgeous and will have any woman swooning at their mere appearance.
Most women may not admit it, but they care about a man’s physical appearance when it comes to attraction. In fact, appearance is the first thing everybody, male or female, notices about a person.
According to a study entitled Perception and Deception: Human Beauty and the Brain, our brains are hardwired to notice looks and draw certain conclusions or biases based on them. All of this happens instinctively; we don’t realize this.
Personality
What made you fall in love with a woman?
Perhaps her authenticity? Thoughtfulness? Sense of humor?
Like men, personality can make a woman fall in love.
You don’t have to be the most handsome man in the world to win a woman’s heart. Based on the results of the Ideal Partner Survey, women care more about a man’s personality, and looking good came in second.
Looks will wane over time. You can improve your hygiene or change your style to look good. You can even go under the knife to achieve an aesthetically pleasing face.
But do you know what won’t change? Your personality.
They say that “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder,” which means that different people will or will not find someone attractive; it depends.
As such, not all women will judge you by your looks. Some will still consider you handsome, even if you are average-looking, as long as you have a good personality.
So What Really Matters When Love Is Concerned?
So, what is more important, looks or personality?
In this looks or personality debate, it would be easy to assume that looks matter most in love. But looks are only the tip of the iceberg.
Indeed, you need to be attracted to someone before considering them a potential love interest. However, women care a lot more about the whole package than just the wrapping; it is what’s inside that counts.
That said, while looks might matter for initial attraction, a man’s personality wins a woman’s heart.
